Cominciamo questa settimana di fine settembre parlando di arredi che vengono piantati e coltivati.

Non sto dando i numeri, si tratta di un’opera di Gavin Munro: una rivoluzionaria idea che combina arte, natura e design in un modo ancora poco conosciuto ai più.

We begin this week of late September talking about furniture that are planted and cultivated.

I’m not crazy, it is a work of Gavin Munro: a revolutionary idea that combines art, nature and design in a way still unknown to most people.

Tutto nasce quando Gavin da piccolo, nel giardino di casa, vede un bonsai cresciuto che somiglia ad una sedia.

Passano 25 anni tra operazioni e sacrifici e in questo tempo Gavin impara l’arte della pazienza.

Comincia a fare i primi esperimenti con siede e alberi per qualche anno, ma la scintilla si accende solo quando un suo amico gli fa notare che lui sicuramente sa cosa vuol dire essere plasmati e innestati per cosi tanti anni.

 

Everything starts when Gavin was a child and sees in his garden a grown bonsai that looks like a chair.

He spends 25 years in operations and sacrifices and in this time Gavin learns the art of patience.

He begins to make the first experiments with trees and chairs for a few years, but the spark is lit only when a friend points out that he definitely knows what it means to be shaped and grafted for so many years.

Solo dopo una laurea in Furniture Design e un apprendistato da un falegname Gavin matura l’idea che poi seguirà con passione: crescere alberi direttamente in forme bellissime e utili.

Si tratta di una forma d’arte davvero unica che coniuga una filosofia romantica ad un’idea fortemente pratica.

Si comincia con una sedia su cui si innestano rami e semi, che vengono coltivati e curati per anni.

Dopo anche 8 anni l’opera comincia a prendere vita: la sedia è robusta e pronta ad essere utilizzata.

 

But it is only after a degree in Furniture Design and an apprenticeship from a carpenter that Gavin mature the idea that then followed with passion: grow trees directly into beautiful and helpful forms.

It is a unique form of art that combines a romantic philosophy to a strongly practical idea .

It begins with a chair onto which branches and seeds are grafted and cared for years.

Even after eight years the work begins to come to life: the chair is sturdy and ready to be used.

 

Un modo di coltivare meno aggressivo delle piantagioni odierne che inquinano e sfruttano massicciamente i terreni.

Non pensiate che sia un modo di crescere le piante violento: ricordate che una pianta se non si trova bene muore e non si fa forzare a seguire una forma a lei non consona.

Sarà come avere un arredo vivente, che respira e cresce e su cui altri essere viventi potranno nutrirsi.

Un modo di intendere il design delicato e rispettoso dell’ambiente, per arredi davvero unici.

 

A way to cultivate less aggressive than today plantations that pollute and exploit massively land.

Do not think it’s a violent way of growing plants: remember that if a plant is not well dies and you do not force them to follow a form they did not find consonant.

It’s like having a living furniture, breathing and growing and where other living beings can feed themselves.

A soft and environmentally way to concieve design, for a unique piece of furniture.
